April’s Pet of the Month
Meet
Olive, our April Pet of the Month! Not only are we honored to feature
sweet Olive, but we also get to wish her a happy first birthday on April
20th!! Olive is an adorable Yorkie mix who loves to give kisses, play at
daycare with her Newfoundland friend Truman, and play with her squeaky toys!
Olive is here to teach us about pet insurance!
Olive
was born with enamel dysplasia, which only became apparent after her adult
teeth came in. There are multiple different layers in the adult teeth and
Olive's teeth did not properly form leaving her without the enamel, or outer
layer of her teeth! We often liken it to an M&M that was made without
the candy shell! Without the enamel, the sensitive and vulnerable dentin
is exposed leaving room for infection and/or discomfort. When this was
discovered, we sent little Olive over to one of our local dental specialists
Dr. Battig at Animal Dental Clinic. They performed an enamel restoration
that will help protect the teeth, although Olive's teeth will need careful
monitoring throughout her life.
When
Olive first came to us, we signed her up for a free 30-day pet insurance trial
offered by Trupanion. This trial is free and we can sign any pet up for
it during their first visit with us! Olive's mom liked what Trupanion had
to offer and decided to enroll her for continued insurance coverage. When
Olive went to see the dental specialist, and because the enamel dysplasia is
considered an health concern and not a cosmetic issue, Trupanion covered $1465
of the $1860 bill! We are so happy that Olive's teeth are healthier and
we are glad that Trupanion was such a great help! Please be sure to ask
